Alan M. Abramson is an experienced New York criminal defense attorney who has been in practice for more than 24 years, first as a prosecutor and then as a defense lawyer. For the past 18 years he has focused exclusively on representing individuals accused of crimes in State and Federal Court. He has represented clients in matters alleging fraud, white collar crime,(including bank fraud, mail fraud, securities fraud and insurance fraud), perjury, bribery, gambling, money laundering, tax fraud, obstruction of justice, and alien smuggling. He has also represented individuals and corporations in criminal cases alleging violations of environmental laws and RICO investigations conducted by state and federal prosecutors. Mr. Abramson has represented individuals in investigations initiated by the SEC, the Internal Revenue Service, and the New York City Department of Investigation.

Mr. Abramson has represented numerous clients charged with violent felonies, including homicide cases, and he was successful in securing the dismissal of two murder prosecutions. Recently Mr. Abramson represented the pilot of the New York Staten Island Ferry following the ferry tragedy that killed 11 people and injured scores of others in the New York Harbor.

Prior to joining Abramson & Morak in 1990, Mr. Abramson served for five years as an assistant district attorney in the Kings County District Attorney's Office. During his tenure as an assistant district attorney, Mr. Abramson successfully prosecuted serious felony cases, including violent crimes, from indictment through trial. Having presented scores of cases before the grand jury, he has developed a deep understanding of grand jury procedures. As an assistant district attorney in the Rackets Bureau, he investigated and prosecuted complex criminal cases, including matters involving fraud, bribery, extortion, narcotics trafficking, tax fraud and racketeering. Moreover, as a Rackets Bureau prosecutor, Mr. Abramson developed a thorough understanding of the use of electronic surveillance, eavesdropping warrants, and search and seizure.
